Types of Research

Professional family history research by Clive Andrews

Most people turn to a professional genealogist for one of three reasons.

First, they do not have the time (or perhaps the inclination or expertise) to do the research themselves.  Secondly, they have hit a brick wall and have run out of ideas and do not know where else to look.  Or thirdly, they live too far away from where the records are stored so cannot explore them themselves.

These are the types of research I usually undertake:

General Family History - I can research families from almost anywhere in England, Wales and Scotland at least as far back as the early 19th Century, often back into earlier centuries as well.

Research into Original Documents - many documents are not available online and must be viewed in county record offices.  I regularly visit the archives for Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Worcestershire and Bristol, and can also visit archives further afield.

House Histories - I specialise in researching the history of houses in Gloucestershire.

Location Photography - If you live too far away to visit buildings and places connected to your family I can take photos for you.  This is usually most cost effective if the location is within about 50 miles of Gloucester.

Problem Solving - If you are researching your family yourself and have hit a brick wall then perhaps I can bring my professional experience to bear on the problem.
