Fees

My standard fee is £20 per hour.  If you compare this with other genealogists you will find it is very competitive for the experience and knowledge that I bring to the work.

The Cost of Specific Types of Research

General Family History - My standard fee plus the cost of obtaining or copying documents

Research into Original Documents - My standard fee plus the cost of travelling to the archive.  No additional charge for visiting Gloucestershire Archives as I am based just a few minutes away.  Small additional charges might be required to cover photo permits or photocopying.

House Histories - My standard fee plus the cost of obtaining and copying documents. 

Location Photography - My standard fee plus the cost of travel

Presentation Copies - copies of family or house histories are usually sent to clients by email but can be printed and bound in a deluxe spring-back binder at an additional cost

Initial Consultation

Unlike many genealogists, I usually do not charge for an initial appraisal of an enquiry.  However, if there is a large amount of information to assess I might need to ask for a small fee to cover my time.

Assessing your enquiry includes investigating what relevant documents are available and deciding whether there is a reasonable chance of success with the research.  If I cannot help you I will tell you!

The Quote

Once I have examined your enquiry I will give you a quote for the research.  If you ask me to proceed I guarantee not to exceed the cost we have agreed without seeking your consent.

Payment

I ask for 50% of the fee in advance, the remainder to be paid at the conclusion of the work.

I send clients a report when the agreed amount has been expended, suggesting what the next steps could be if they wish the research to continue.  I pride myself on the thoroughness of my work and keep a detailed record of time spent on each client’s work. Expenses are kept to a minimum.

You can pay by clicking on the 'Pay Now' button below.  This will take you to the PayPal secure web site.  You do not need a PayPal account to use this facility.  On the site you will be able to enter the payment amount and then pay by credit or debit card in any major currency including GB Pounds, Euros, US or Canadian Dollars.
